This week has been crazy!

My companion (Elder Hintze) and I didn't know if we were going to stay together for another change... BUT WE ARE!!!!!!!!!!!! I Love him like crazy and I get the honors of killing him (last companion on the mission). He has 6 weeks left and he has told me, "I'm going to kill you for these next 6 weeks, and then you can kill me."  haha so pumped! Get ready for a lot of baptism pics!

Speaking of baptism.. We have been baptizing! Marlon (Gran Pescado) Sandavol! He wears a Tony Romo jersey to church every week. The kid is awesome but really stubborn. ha but we sent him in that water and it was soo great!

We had the sweetest miracle this week. We were in an area that we take a truck to. We had a meeting with some recent converts and they were having some legit problems so we spent a little while at their house. When we finished it was dark and the trucks weren't running anymore ( Everyone in Guatemala goes to bed at 7). We start walking back the few miles that it would take to get back to our city. It was pitch dark and really sketchy and some members told us to never go back in the dark.. but we kind of had to in this situation. We said a prayer for safety and starting running back to Patulul. We passed a biker and the biker flipped a U and that usually means something not good in Guatemala. We thought we were going to get robbed. But the biker was a friend of ours who worked construction by our house and we always hook him up with candy. so he comes to us and says, "There are some guys up here who will jump people and rob them, but they know me and won't do anything if you guys are with me, so I will walk you guys back to the city." It was soo tight. We walked back to the city completely safe. It was so tight. I know we are being blessing and watched over for being exactly obedient. I feel the administering of Angels. MOM AND DAD, GUATEMALA IS SAFE, DON'T WORRY.

I am absolutely loving my mission. It's a true blessing to be here and I thank you all for the support. I feel your love and support everyday. Thanks!

April 21, 2015

This week has been so much fun! The weeks are passing by so fast!   We Got a BAPTISM!!! Pablo Puh is my homie! We went to a member's house and asked if she had fam we could teach and she said no. But then this little homie comes from behind the door and was like, "I want to go to church." haha It's her nephew so we taught him and three short weeks later we baptized him. He is such a stud and a future missionary. He is 12 and is going to come on some lessons with us. ha His baptism was so sweet, President Markham and his wife (the Guatemala mama) dropped in and said some
words. It was special.

I'm getting more and more comfortable with my Spanish. It's still terrible but I'm  getting better. We had a big group of 3 families and were teaching the first lesson. Because they were so big they were kind of encircled around us. I brought up a scripture and had to stand up  to hand a guy the book. Then after he read it he handed it to me and then i started to preach standing in front of all these people waving a Book of Mormon at them testifying of Christ. I literally felt like a southern baptist pastor. I just yelled at them and they loved it. I love yelling at people. They love us here.

It's either 1000 degrees with 100% humidity or it's raining like you are in a shower. It's so awesome. Patulul has to be one of the best places in the world. The people here are sooo sweet. I was walking the other day through a rainstorm and the streets were completely flooded. I hit some spots where the water was halfway up to my knee. It gets crazy! but I love the rain!

We made the tightest t shirts as a district. I'll put a pic up. We went to this guy and he was so pumped. He is a crazy evangelio so he put "piense grande porque dios es grande!" haha They are so swag!

I'm loving my mission so much!! Thank everyone for all the support! You have all blessed my life in many different ways! Thank you all soo much!

Friends and Fam!

The mishhh is going swell! I'm loving it here in Gaut on the coast. I literally sweat like crazy all the time. I wake up and can look at my bed and see where I laid because it's dark from all the sweat. It's great! But anyways.. This past week was a good one!

These are called flete trucks and is their transportation

The hermanas in our district got 3 baptisms this past Sunday! Good work! We were going to have 2 but they fell through and it broke my heart... We were at church and it was about time to do baptisms and a member was going to baptize them... and then he was like.. I don't have clothes, how about one of the missionaries do it.. so Elder Hintze and I went and got clothes from the house and I got to baptize. It was fun! Kindof still is a bummer tho because they were our investigators! but oh well.
Patulul is crazy fun! Everyone here is so funny. I walk down the streets and just yell at them and they love it. "Buenas Dias Hermana!!!! Les Amamos!!" And they just yell back and tell me that God is great. haha. Everyone here is all sorts of different religions, but they are all crazy about God and Jesus Christ.

We have changes in a week!! How crazy is that! These past 5 weeks have just blown by. But I'm pretty sure I'm staying in Patulul with my companion.. I really hope I do at least.
They'd totally be illegal here, but that's
how they roll in Guatemala
I had a interview with Prez yesterday. It was awesome! I have been fasting and praying for something that I read about it the scriptures to help with the mission work. And I was going to ask him about it during our interview, Before I could ask he just went off about exactly what I was looking for. That guy is so tight. Love President Markham.
Well! Thanks everyone for all the support! Not to exciting of a week this past week! Just a lot of work!
les amo!

This week has been crazy!

This past week was Semana Santa which means Holy Week. People are so crazy! The kids run through the streets with machetes and Halloween masks and it makes no sense. There are so many parades and street art, so that was cool. They also like to do fireworks at 3 in the morning.. so that was also cool... not!

General Conference was legit! We got to watch it in English! Saturday session was kinda dumb at parts... they talked about marriage sooo much. and I just sat there and was like, I'm on a mission.. haha.   But then on Sunday they put down some awesome talks about the Savior! Gosh that was soo sweet. We got some investigators to the church to watch too. It was good!

So this last week we were teaching some people that we played basketball with on p-day in the church. We were showing the restoration video of Joseph Smith. A girl came in and started kissing everyone on the cheek. and I didn't know what to do. So I stuck my arm out and kept it as straight as I could to give her a hand shake, and she grabbed my hand and when in for a kiss! I just sat there and didn't know what to do and my companion was like "NOOOOO" and she stopped and didn't kiss me. haha Elder Hintze saved my life that day.

I got over being sick and that was sooo great. Being sick on the mission is not fun. We sleep in a mosquito net and I kept waking up in the sleep and throwing up in my mosquito net because you can't see it in the dark. ha but I'm better! Working is so much better than being sick!

This p-day we went to a place in our area that had crocodiles and alligators! How crazy is that!? It was sweet. There were some big boys. My companion took some sweet pics of me wrestling one;) Guatemala is crazy. The other day we were teaching a lesson and a pig the size of a cow just walks in the room. It was probably the biggest thing I have ever seen. And the people were like.. "That's our pig." hahah They are crazy here! I love em like crazy tho.
I love it here. The Guatemala City Central mission is so special. They are sooo strict here but that is only because the only way that miracles happen is through perfect obedience. We are an exactly obedient mission and it is such a blessing. We receive so many blessings from obedience. I have been learning so much about life while I've been here on the mission. I see the older guys here and it makes me feel so pumped. I know this mission is making me into something that I could have never been without it.

Remember everyone, God loves you. Follow him will all you can and you will be blessed. That's a promise.
Love you guys!!

Hey everyone!

Well, I don't really know what to say.

We are teaching lessons like crazy in our new area and we are always busy! It's really nice because we get so much done during the day.

I must have caught a virus or something going around because I got pretty sick on Sunday and it wasn't pretty. Getting sick on the mission is probably the last place you want to get sick. Especially in Guatemala. But hey! I survived!

The work is really hard, because I expect to understand the language faster than what I am. It gets hard at times when you feel like you explained something in clear Spanish and the investigator just gives you a blank look in return. ha but I know i will get it. I am just going to have to keep pushing myself.

I'm so excited to General Conference. Talking to the other missionaries, it's like the Superbowl for a missionary. haha

It rains like crazy here. I love the rain. It comes down soo hard. The other day my companion and I were in the rain and we didn't know where to go next and decided to pray for guidance. We moved in front of a house to a dry spot to pray and as we finished the prayer a lady was looking out of the window. We knocked on the door and it was a young family who we had talked to a few days earlier but weren't able to find their house (they don't have addresses here) and we were able to teach them! It was a really cool experience. I feel that I am being led by the spirit and I'm loving it.

Thanks everyone for all the prayers and help!

Hey people!
This week was soo crazy...

The first house I knocked was my first baptism. I baptized her on my birthday. How many missionaries can say that?! The lord is blessing me in so many ways out here. My birthday was sooo great! I baptized two people and that was soo much fun! Kind of crazy too because my companion and I are opening this area after it has been closed for a little bit. Also two families that we have become friends with got me cakes for my birthday and we partied after a lesson to their investigator friends. haha so I had twice the birthday I would have had at home. It's a Guatemala thing to push the person's head into the cake.. so I got that twice. haha It's been so much fun being able to be here in the mission. It's the hardest thing I've ever done and I literally don't understand anything that people say, but I know I'm making a difference and that's what feels so good.
The best thing in the world is a mango from Patalul, Gautama. They are sooo good! I'm loving the food here. We have eaten some pretty sketchy things but my body is being a champ. I weighed myself this last week and I gained 10 pounds from the mtc. Great success.

I am so tired all the time! In one of the pictures I took it says its 3:45.. that's in the morning. We had to wake up at 3 that day to go to a meeting in the capital. It's crazy but I always have enough energy and I know that's because of my Father in Heaven. This are going great!

Thanks everyone for the prayers and support! It's been really special!
I really hoped I clicked the right pictures to share. It's hard to see on this small screen.

Thanks!

 OMG IT'S BEEN SO CRAZY!!

I am in a little town on the coast called Patulul writing in a ´computer shop´ right now. haha It's so awesome to finally be out in the field. I don´t understand much but I do understand the Spirit and it has guided me so far. I left the mtc at 5 in the morning on Tuesday and I'm so happy to be out of that place! We stayed in the city my first night in a crammed missionary home. It's so crazy to see these older *gringos* speak perfect Spanish and it gives me hope.

Anyways, I had the special opportunity to hear from an Apostle yesterday. President Anderson came and talked to our mission and it was the coolest thing ever. I literally understood so little but it was such a special Spirit. He spoke about Central America and the Lamanites and we read 1 Nephi chapter 15 verse 14. It's so cool. Everyone here believes in Christ. it's just a matter if I am able to explain why they need to follow His commandments. SO EXCITED! I am going to baptize everyone!

My companion is Elder Hintze... He is from Centerville Utah and has 3 months left on his mission. He is the coolest guy to ever live. It's so nice to have a companion who can teach me everything. He has been kicking my butt and it's just awesome.  I am so blessed. He was an assistant to the Prez and they pulled him down to teach me. I am so happy. We have been waking up a few hours early in the morning so he can teach me. He is 6 foot 5 and he has the stride of Usan Bolt. I jog while he is walking. "We are on the Lord's time, there is urgency in this work"-Elder Hintze

I love my mission prez. He is the coolest guy. He and I are going to get along just fine. ha

I taught a few lessons... kinda. I don´t know whats going on half the time so I just try to listen to that Spirit and testify. The other day we were teaching a lady who didn't want to get baptized and I was able to be guided by the Spirit and say some inspired things. I feel great!

Thanks for all the support! I feel it so much! Just remember that I'm praying about you guys all the time!

This week has been pretty uneventful like normal! haha. it's been fun though. I have been working my tail off and have seen the hand of the Lord in my life.

Last Tuesday we went to the market and handed out Book of Mormons and got to shop. It was awesome. I got a sweet new tie. I missed food so much that when we got to Wendy's I ate 2 combos... I'm getting fat;) but my companion and I only landed one Book of Mormon. It's really hard. We only had like 30 minutes to try to place em so that made it difficult. The guy who took our book only had like 3 teeth.. and my Spanish isn't very good. It's  better than my companion's so I just sat there and could pick up maybe one word out of 10.. and I would have to come up with something to say. haha.  I heard him say cross once, so i just taught about the death of Christ and the restoration and he took it well and took our book. haha soo hard....

While we were shopping a guy selling things kept telling me to get something for my "esposa", which means wife, and so I'm now the only married elder at the mtc according to everyone.
sooo awesome. so..

I kind of spill everything on my white shirts...no surprise there... but there is an old lady who works here and she got all the stains out of my shirts!! Praise the heavens! ;) I recently talked to a Latino about my mission because he lives there and he kept telling me that I will baptize thousands. apparently the mission prez wants 15 a months or something.. ha the Latino was talking fast and my Spanish is terrible but I'm soo pumped. I'm ready to baptize em all!

Sundays in the mtc are the best. This Sunday we watched a devotional from Elder Holland, who is my hero, and it made me so pumped. can't wait to get out in the field. I don't plan on understanding the people but I will work my but off and hopefully they will understand that and that I love em to death. ha love you guys! thanks for all the support! I pray about you all!

Hey everybody!

The MTC is getting better by the day! It's sooo hard but I am learning fast. I feel so inadequate at times because of how fast they want me to learn, but I am progressing like crazy.

Hope everyone enjoys Valentines. Here at the mtc so many Latinos got in trouble and almost sent home on that day because they were sending notes. haha I've got so many friends here,it is awesome! My companion is awesome and my district is awesome! I have become tight with some of the Latinos. Even gave one Caitlyn's email address. haha.  He says that we are going to be brother-in-laws. I showed them a picture of caitlyn and they all want to marry her. They left yesterday because its only a 2 week mtc stay for them. I gave them some of my ties and we are going to email each other. Funny kids.

All we do in the mtc is study, basketball, and eat. They call me hulk here. it's because all the Latinos are literally 3 feet tall. it's so funny. I can just pick them up all the time with ease.

Thanks for all the support! I love you guys so much! Today in the temple. I just thought about all you guys and I'm so blessed to have all of you in my life.
The spacebar on the computer only works like 10% of the time and it's driving me insane. This letter took me half an hour.

The MTC is so crazy!

I have learned so much I feel like my head is going to explode! It's been so hard but I think I am finally starting to understand some of the things the Latinos are trying to say to me.. haha.  My first few days they would try to talk to me and I would just say "lo siento" which is "I'm sorry" and I walk away or nod my head and say Si. haha They just make fun of me.

The past few days I have been talking to two Latinos and they are honestly sooo funny. Elder
Pineda and Elder Garcia. They remind me of like Hayden Fillmore and Caden Cluff. They make me laugh so hard. My companion is pretty tight, his name is Elder Stiles. Made me laugh so hard when I found out that we were companions because it just reminded me of Brynn and her love for Harry Stiles. haha

They made me get a haircut when I first got here. I have no idea why because I already had my hair really short but the guy was soo bad. He is no Sadie Trowbridge. While he was cutting my hair he pulled out his phone and started texting people. He wasn't even looking at me! My companion was laughing so hard.

They took our cameras so we can't really send pictures but when I get out in the field I will be sure to send tons!

The language sucks.. I don't know where the gifts of tongues is but I'm sure praying for it a lot. It's
crazy having to study all day everyday. My brain is fried all the time, but I'm learning so much. The Hermanas love me. They call me Cristoff from Frozen for some reason. It makes me laugh. All the guys I have met I have come to love. I've got a buddy from Hawaii, Elder Mengelea. We are bro's. I'm trying to talk him into coming to Utah to play football with me after the mission. He played at Kahuku high school. I'm a District Leader and I honestly have no idea why. haha It's
fun but the meetings I have to go to are all in Spanish and I have no idea what anyone is saying.. haha

I'm loving it here. Sundays are the best. It's all in English so I actually know what they are talking
about so that is nice.

I love all of you guys and I feel your prayers! Thanks for all the support! -Elder Buhrley

I made it here alive!

I made it to the mtc alive.. Don't worry, I'm in good hands. I didn't
sleep at all on the plane but they said that we can can take a nap
right after I finish writing you! Everything is going swell and I can't
wait to put my shoulder to the wheel. I can already tell it's going to
be hard but I am so excited.

Love you! Elder Buhrley
